Carrara Marble Side Table, Italy c.1972

A single block of Carrara, turned and hollowed, the column rising from a broad disc foot into a circular top of the same stone. The veining runs continuously from base to top, which means it was cut from one piece — an expensive way to make a small table and the reason it has survived intact.
